چکیده

Several supporting observations indicate that Sithylemenkat Lake, Alaska; occupies a meteorite impact crater formed near the end of the Wisconsinan glaciation. The initial identification with Landsat imagery is attributed to the unique perspective provided by such imagery.

Meteorite impact crater in central alaska.

Study of Landsat imagery prompted Cannon (1) to suggest that Sithylemenkat Lake in central Alaska occupies a meteorite impact crater. In support of his thesis, he cites physiographic, structural, geochemical, and aeromagnetic evidence from various published sources. We believe, on the basis of our previous work in the area (2-4), that Cannon has largely misinterpreted these published data, whic...

Determination of Soil Moisture Content at Bukit Bunuh Meteorite Impacted Area using Resistivity Method and Laboratory Test

Determination of soil moisture content is of vital importance to many fields of study; civil engineering, hydrology, agriculture, geology, ecology and forestry. The occurrence of impact crater in Bukit Bunuh, a meteorite impacted area, made it an area of great interest to many researchers. In view of the process of impact cratering, the subsurface soil characteristics such as moisture content o...

Circular feature among dunes of the great sand sea, egypt.

A circular crater, about 4 kilometers in diameter and located at 24.2 degrees N, 26.4 degrees E, was discovered in Landsat images among the linear dunes of the Great Sand Sea, Egypt. The crater has a sharp and crenulated rim crest, a terraced wall, a discontinuous inner structure (approximately 1.6 kilometers in diameter), and a few rim blocks. Its morphological and morphometric characteristics...

The Late Holocene Whitecourt Meteorite Impact Crater: a Low-energy Hypervelocity Event

Introduction: Small impact events resulting in simple impact structures <100 m in diameter are common features recorded on the solid surfaces in our Solar System. Such structures are rare in Earth's impact cratering record and most are typically heavily modified by subsequent erosion or are found in remote locations. The recently discovered Whitecourt Meteorite Impact Crater (WMIC) provides sig...

Evidence for coeval Late Triassic terrestrial impacts from the Rochechouart (France) meteorite crater

High temperature impact melt breccias from the Rochechouart (France) meteorite crater record a magnetization component with antipodal, normal and reverse polarities. The corresponding paleomagnetic pole for this component lies between the 220 Ma and 210 Ma reference poles on the Eurasian apparent polar wander path, consistent with the 214±8 Ma Ar/Ar age of the crater. Late Triassic tectonic rec...
